Maxtor DiamondMax 60 Data Recovery Details

Maxtor hard drive's need data recovery, the Maxtor DiamondMax 60 is no exception.

My clients HP laptop will not boot to the desktop. You turn on the machine, and it immediately displays the HP logo in white on black. Beneath this it states:
"Press ESC to change boot order
Press<F2> to enter setup, <F12> to boot from LAN"
None of these options work. Whatever keys are pressed before or after turning on the power, this screen is all you can get. Drive is Maxtor.

Maxtor have been manufacturing hard drives for the PC and Server-Business market since 1990. They have one of the best reputations for reliability in the hard disk market. The Maxtor Diamond Max series is still regarded among the best quality hard drives around, this was reason enough as to why Maxtor was the world's third largest manufacturer of computer hard disks right up to it's acquisition by Seagate in May 2006. One of the most common Maxtor issues is factory firmware problems. Factory Firmware is stored on the disk platters in the so-called System (Service) Area of the Maxtor hard disk. If one or more than one of the disk modules becomes corrupted the whole Maxtor hard disk cannot boot up. If your Maxtor hard drive cannot boot up and is getting identified by its factory alias, for example instead of Maxtor model name, it displays for example "MAXTOR N40P" on the DiamondMax Plus 8, "MAXTOR CALYPSO" III on the DiamondMax Plus 9, "MAXTOR FALCON" on the DiamondMax 10 series. If you have this problem we have a data recovery solution for you!
Currently there is no way to fix this type of firmware corruption at home. It is quite a complicated procedure and requires use of specialised expensive equipment and deep knowledge of hard drive design and data recovery technology.
The drive is a Maxtor DiamondMax 60. My hard drive is making a clicking sound. It started recently and seems to be getting more frequent. Sometimes I hear a repeated click-whir sound and then the computer locks up.

Maxtor drives are also well-known for their line of "musical" hard disks that have a very high rate of bearing (motor) failure. When this occurs the spindle gets stuck and motor voice coil starts producing a mobile phone type melody. Maxtor Data recovery in such case involves removing platters from such musical drive in class 100 clean room environment and transplanting them into matching donor Maxtor Hard Drive. This is a very complex and precise procedure and requires a lot of Data Recovery experience and use of specialised in-house tools to maintain multi platter hard disks in alignment.
An electronic fault develops can also occur on the Maxtor controller board. This is normally caused by overheating, power surges or problems with the spindle motor. When this occurs, the drive will appear to have failed completely and not be shown in the BIOS at all.
The Maxtor drive can spin up and the head starts clicking right from the beginning with a regular clicking sound . More times than not this a sign of bad heads, if this is the case it is very important to perform accurate diagnostics and eliminate a chance of possible firmware corruption or PCB failure that sometimes could also cause clicking.
Maxtor - DiamondMax 60. My computer is stuck in a reboot loop. I have an intel pentium 4 desktop computer. it is windows xp home edition. The problem happened after I installed the windows service package 2. It seemed to install the update fine but after i restarted my computer i couldnt seem to get to my desktop. The computer manages to get to the light blue windows xp loading screen but instead of entering my desktop the computer reboots and the whole process starts over again.

The last typical Maxtor hard drive issue applies also to all other hard drive makes and models, the problem is called bad sectors. After some period of time the platters were the data is located starts to degrade and bad sectors appear.
Whenever the hard drive attempts to read bad sectors it could start freezing, scratching, ticking and sometimes loud clicking. This leads to further damage to the surface and causes more data loss. As soon as you start experiencing such symptoms while reading important files, stop the drive immediately and consider sending it to a data recovery company like ourselves for a free diagnostic. Any further attempts to read the Maxtor drive would just add up to the problems and make more data unrecoverable. In our Data Recovery Lab we use expensive imaging tools that are capable of force reading bad sectors from Maxtor Hard Disks. This is usually the only way to effectively retrieve data from these Drives.
