Is Welwyn Garden City the same post town as Welwyn?
No, but the distinction is significant. AL7 and AL8 are both part of the WELWYN GARDEN CITY post town, and both lie wholly inside the Welwyn Hatfield district. The east side of the area is AL7, which includes Shire Park, and the west side is AL8, which includes Lemsford. AL6 is a different post town altogether, WELWYN, which covers the village and extends into two other districts. AL9 and AL10 cover Hatfield. They share only the lettering with St Albans. Regardless of how you have addressed the parcel, there will be just one published sheet to apply to it.
The raw data sits under a defined retention period. How is it handled?
It is handled as the record it is. Your media is never written to: imaging is read-only and comes before anything else is tried, and every attempt afterwards runs against that image rather than on the disk itself; thus whatever you sent arrives back at your location in its original state. A case reference is used in place of your organisation's name on the documentation, an engineer will only read from the disk enough to complete the recovery process, and thirty days after the media is returned to you, the working copy here is destroyed. In addition to receiving the data on fresh media, you will receive a detailed list explaining, file by file, what was recovered successfully and what failed.
A rebuild has been running on the array since yesterday. Stop it?
Now is when you should stop it, and not wait until the end of the day. A rebuild works through every sector on each remaining disk within the set, and this constant use will eventually destroy another tired member. Remove the power, obtain a quote via phone call or fill in the provided form, mark each disk with the bay number that it was removed from, and send them bare or drop them off at our Guildford intake laboratory (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, no appointment needed). With a NAS device, remove the disks and mark them the same way as above if possible; otherwise the entire unit should come to us intact. Pricing for multi-disk services begins at £500 + VAT.
How does a disk get from AL7 across to the bench?
Most often by post. Since neither Welwyn Garden City nor London has a counter, most packages travel by post; therefore please get a quote first (via phone call or the form) before sending it insured and tracked from any local post office, and it is typically booked in at our laboratory on the following working day. Drop-off service is also available during normal hours at our Guildford intake laboratory (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, no appointment necessary). Please do not include the computer itself when sending the disk; there is no cost associated with examining your disk, and we pay for return postage.
