Why the parcel travels, not youThere is nowhere in Barking or Dagenham to hand a drive over, and no counter in London either. The imaging rigs, the shelf of donor drives and the bench all live together at the intake lab, and that is the part of the job which cannot be moved; a disk can be. The District line, the c2c and the Overground out to Barking Riverside all run into town, but not one of them finishes anywhere a failed disk could be handed over, so the disk goes in the post instead — booked, tracked, and off your hands while you carry on working.
Files that keep getting biggerThe largest files a small firm here holds tend not to be documents. A production leaves the stages with terabytes a day on portable SSDs and RAID shuttles; a warehouse keeps months of gate cameras; a market trader keeps years of till exports. Nearly all of it sits on whichever disk first received it, and nothing stands behind that disk until somebody remembers to make a second copy.

The unit runs on one PC and the work does not stop. Can it go to the front?

Say so at the booking stage rather than afterwards and it is marked urgent then. That machine is imaged the day its parcel lands, before the rest of the day's intake, and a finishing date follows the moment there is enough diagnosis to base one on. The line is open Monday to Friday, 9am until 5:30pm.

There is no other copy of the day's rushes. What happens to them?

The original is never written to. A read-only image gets made before any other step, all the work then goes on against that image, and your media returns as it arrived. Whatever is recovered lands on new media, alongside a written list of every file that lifted and every file that did not, for you to check before paying.

What paperwork comes back? The accounts department will want it.

All of it, at no extra charge. You hold the price in writing before any chargeable work, an itemised list of what was recovered to sign off at the end, and a VAT invoice after that. Each job carries its own case reference, which is what it is tracked and discussed under from start to finish.

Does Barking Riverside count, or is it town-centre addresses only?

Both, and on the same terms — RM8, RM9, RM10 and IG11 alike, Becontree, Creekmouth, Thames View, Chadwell Heath and the riverside. RM10 is the one district lying wholly within the borough; IG11 has a Barking post town but reaches over into Beckton and Loxford, so a Barking address is not always a Barking and Dagenham one. Since nothing is fetched, none of it alters the price.
