Data recovery in Stratford and Newham. A show opens on the day it opens — the trouble with the drawings disk.
E20 is London's oddest postcode; it was invented for Walford in EastEnders and was later brought into use for real by Royal Mail for the Olympic Park and Stratford City. Almost everything surrounding it runs to fixed dates that will not move. Also within E6, E7, E12, E13 and E15 sit thousands of shops, restaurants, cab offices and salons, each running on one computer that nobody has ever duplicated. Is there anywhere in Stratford to hand a disk in?
There is no public counter anywhere in Newham or in London where you can physically bring your item; however, you may post it directly to our Guildford intake laboratory or drop it off there in person, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm (no appointment needed). Every aspect of the process (the imaging equipment, the donor stock and the bench) shares a common space at the intake laboratory, and thus it is only the disk that physically moves. Obtain a quote first, by phone or by filling in the quote form, and then post your disk tracked and insured from any local post office in E15 or E16; an engineer usually opens the package the following working morning. The look is free and the return postage is ours.
Nobody here does the IT. What does finding out cost?
Finding out what is wrong costs nothing. After that there will be one written figure that never changes: £300 + VAT for one hard disk and £250 + VAT for cards and USB sticks. The list of what was recovered is yours to read before any money changes hands, and in most cases you only pay if we recover your data. We do not take mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
The disk holds client details. Is posting it a risk?
Each job is booked and tracked under a case reference number, so no client name is ever put on any documentation. An engineer opens only what is necessary for the recovery process, and nothing leaves the laboratory. The working copy of the data will be destroyed one month after your drive is back in your hands. What data is retained, and for how long, is outlined in the privacy policy.
The stand-build server has been a disk down since the last show.
Switch it off at the wall immediately and do not attempt to rebuild it. Finishing a rebuild is what converts one failed disk into two, because the tired member fails during the rebuild phase rather than before it. Get a quote first, either over the phone or using the form. If possible, remove the individual disks from a NAS unit, each labelled by bay number; otherwise send it in its original case with everything intact. Servers and RAID units should always have all their disks removed and labelled by bay number. Do not switch it back on again; every time you start it up reduces the amount of data available for reading. Tell us what the machine was doing when the failure occurred, for example a build running overnight, exporting some files or copying files off a memory card. There is no cost involved with the look; after it, a price will be quoted in writing, and you cannot incur any charges prior to agreeing to this.
