My RM address is in Essex, not London. Any difference?
None at all. RM refers to the Romford area, not the borough: it begins at Chadwell Heath and extends beyond the M25 into Lakeside, Purfleet and Tilbury, thus half of it is located in Thurrock rather than London. Because no drive is ever retrieved, an Upminster yard and a Grays yard are on the same terms: obtain a quote first by phone or using the quote form, then post the drive to us tracked or drop it off at our Guildford intake lab (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, no appointment required); the examination is free; and postage home will be settled at our end.
The gate recorder has stopped playing anything back. Now what?
The power lead should be pulled from the recorder as soon as possible to stop it writing, because a recorder left running keeps laying new footage over the older material. When you are ready, contact us using the quotation form or simply give us a call to receive a quote first. Once you have it, please post the hard disk out of the recorder on its own, not the whole box, to our Guildford laboratory, or drop it off there yourself, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, with no appointment needed. Tell us roughly which dates you need. CCTV recorders (including DVRs and NVRs) fall under our £400 + VAT pricing category, and we will provide you with a written quote prior to beginning any chargeable work.
This may end up in front of a traffic commissioner. What is returned?
Nothing is ever written to the disk you send. Our process begins with creating a read-only copy of the data stored on the original hard drive. All subsequent processes take place within this copy rather than on the original data, ensuring that no changes occur to the data contained on the media. This means that once we complete processing, we can return the original media containing the original data back to you in the same condition that you sent it. The quote received represents a single amount for the total cost of the services rendered, and prior to commencing any chargeable services, we ensure that both parties agree on paper to the terms represented by the quote. After completion of your project, you will receive all processed data on new media along with a detailed report outlining which files were successfully extracted and which files failed to read. This report is exactly what an inspector, an insurance company representative or a solicitor would want to see.
Best way to wrap a drive for the post?
To protect your unit from damage caused by movement while in transit, do everything you possibly can to minimise movement. If you have an anti-static bag, use it. Pad each side of the carton until there is absolutely no chance that the hard drive unit can move; whatever box the drive originally came in does the job well. Before sending your unit, please obtain a quote by contacting us via phone or using our online quotation form. Upon receiving a quote, book a tracked and insured delivery service. In addition to affixing postage to the package, include a printed copy of our shipping form in the same package.
