EN5 is the first thing to get correct. The post town of BARNET covers both EN4 and EN5, and the land underneath is split between three different authorities: this borough, Enfield and Hertsmere. Where in Barnet can I hand the drive over?
Nowhere. There isn't any shop or counter within the borough, and there isn't one anywhere else in London; however, you can simply post it to our Guildford intake laboratory or take it to our Guildford intake laboratory yourself, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm (you don't need to make an appointment). Our imaging benches and donor drives are located at our Guildford intake laboratory, and that is why it is usually the disk that makes the journey rather than you. First get a quote by phone or complete our quotation form, then track and insure the parcel when sending it by post. Parcels sent from Barnet will normally be opened the next working morning, and we cover the cost of the return leg.
It is the one machine the practice runs on. What does a look cost?
There is no cost for simply looking. Only one figure will emerge from that process, and you get it in writing; until you agree to that figure, no chargeable work is done. £250 + VAT is charged for a card or a memory stick. £300 + VAT is charged for one hard drive. Before your bill is created you receive an index of all the recovered files to look through, and on most jobs you only pay if we recover your data. Phones and tablet computers are outside what we take in for these services.
There are client files on it. Who reads them?
An engineer reads them, and no more of your disk is opened than the recovery requires. Your company name or your clients' names never appear on the job sheet; instead a case reference is assigned and carries the work through. Nothing is shared with anyone outside the lab, and thirty days after your drive has travelled home, all working copies of your information stored at the lab will be permanently deleted. The privacy policy outlines how long each thing is retained.
The practice NAS has been running a disk down for weeks. Now what?
Turn off the power at the wall before anything starts a rebuild: one disk failing, then a second failing during the rebuild, is what you are trying to avoid. Then leave it alone, and get a quote first, either over the phone or via the form, prior to sending it to us. With a NAS, try removing the individual disks if possible, labelling them according to their designated bays; if this is impossible, send the NAS whole, with its disks left where they sit. Servers and RAID sets always need their disks taken out, each disk labelled with its bay number first and then lifted out. Jobs involving several disks start at £500 + VAT.
