Is Southall covered as well as W5 and W13?
UB1 and UB2 make up Southall's own post town (not London, and not Middlesex), and they are covered, along with W3 Acton, W5, W7 Hanwell, W13, UB5 Northolt and UB6 Greenford. Ealing uses four postcode areas, W, UB, NW and HA; none of this makes any difference to you. No collections are made from any location, and pricing is uniform across all locations.
The filenames are in Gurmukhi. Will they survive?
Yes. The filename encoding was encoded into the file when created, not added by the display screen. When a read-only image is made, the filenames are preserved as they appeared at creation time, whether Gurmukhi, Gujarati, Tamil, accented Latin or whatever else the machine held. Folder structures work in the exact same manner. Before paying anything, what you check is a listing of all recovered files with their original names intact.
A shop says the drive is beyond help. Is it?
Often not. Shops earn their income from restoring computers for use, as opposed to examining a hard disk which has ceased responding, which takes different hardware to accomplish. Hard drives that were given up on at other places are sent into our facility nearly every week, and they image without complaint. We can assess your situation during a complimentary initial inspection, therefore determining which of the two you require will cost you nothing.
It is the family machine and not a business one. Will you take it?
Most of what comes in here from Ealing is exactly that: disks removed from a PC that runs both the shop and the household, or one removed from a laptop that has sat in a back office for five years, or one external drive containing every photo a family has ever taken. Cards and sticks cost £250 + VAT and a single drive costs £300 + VAT. You get to review a list of recovered files and agree to it first, and in most cases you only pay if we recover your data. The lab does not perform services on phones or tablets.
