Data recovery in Hammersmith and Fulham. Camera cards and lab notebooks come off the same W12 street.
There are three published price bands: £300 + VAT for one hard disk, £250 + VAT for memory sticks and camera cards, and from £500 + VAT once a job carries several disks, meaning RAID systems, NAS boxes and servers. Determining which category you belong to is free of charge, and it is important to note here, because there are two very different types of media coming from one W12 street. Television Centre, 101 Wood Lane, W12 7FA, is a working studio complex again, with Studios 1, 2 and 3 run by BBC Studioworks since September 2017 and BBC Studios in Stage 6, although the BBC sold the site in 2012 to a Stanhope-led joint venture with Mitsui Fudosan and AIMCo. Some of the items that come off it include camera cards, rushes, edit projects and recorded gallery footage. Located on the same street as Television Centre is White City Place. This is a 1.9 million sq ft campus with bio-tech and life sciences companies housed within its walls, and the media there holds instrument output, imaging and electronic lab notebooks that are kept under retention regulations running for many years after a study has ended. Around these buildings are Imperial's Molecular Sciences Research Hub, which opened in 2018; L'Oréal's UK headquarters, which moved from Hammersmith Broadway to Gateway Central in 2023; Charing Cross Hospital on Fulham Palace Road, which has been based in Hammersmith since 1973 and not at Charing Cross; and Hammersmith Hospital, which is located at 72 Du Cane Road in W12. Once down in SW6 things get smaller and more personal. What SW6 asks most.
There is no counter in Hammersmith. Does that slow anything down?
Not often. The imagers, the bench and the donor-disk shelf are all in one room at our Guildford intake lab, so usually the media travels and nobody else needs to travel. There is no counter in Hammersmith and Fulham, or anywhere in London: get a quote first, using the phone or the quote form, then take a trackable, insured parcel to any W6, W12 or SW6 post office and it will most likely reach the intake lab to be booked into the system the next working morning. Alternatively, hand-deliver it to the intake lab yourself, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, with no appointment needed. We will cover the leg back home.
A shop has told me the disk is beyond help. Is that the last word?
Often, it is not. A repair job is done once your computer is working again. Recovering files from a disk that has stopped answering is an entirely different type of job, using completely different types of equipment, and it is the only thing this bench does. Most weeks, media that has been turned away elsewhere is brought into the lab and imaged here. Since nothing is charged for a preliminary evaluation, a second opinion will cost you the postage out and nothing more.
Is a W12 job priced differently from a W6 one?
No. Two things define the charge: the media and the issue with the media. Your address is not one of them. There is no charge made for the initial assessment, regardless of the location, and the figure reaches you in writing while the drive is still untouched. If you decline it, you owe nothing. In most cases you only pay if we recover your data, and we pay for the postage back to you.
It is a freelance edit drive rather than a company server. Do you take work like that?
A large share of the Hammersmith and Fulham postbag is from an individual with one computer and no IT department behind them. Your project files, or your family photos, are stored on a single drive (or card), and the cost of recovery will depend on the type of storage medium. Hard drives cost £300 + VAT each and cards or sticks £250 + VAT each. A list of the recovered files is yours to approve before anything is billed, and in most cases you only pay if we recover your data. We do not undertake recovery services for phones or tablets.
