Data recovery for Wimbledon and Merton. Two economies, four main postcode districts, one bench reading both.
The first point to clarify is that Merton is four main postcode districts across three areas, with edges of SW16, SW17 and KT3 besides, laid over one small borough. However, the SW19 district includes much more than just Wimbledon, taking in Colliers Wood, Merton Park, Merton Abbey and Southfields in Wandsworth. Mitcham's postcode is CR4 and therefore part of Croydon's postcode area, although the town lies firmly within the borough of Merton. Morden falls under SM4, a district shared with neighbouring Sutton. Two very different business environments exist in these locations. Wimbledon Village and central Wimbledon contain a great many solicitors, accountants, surveyors, architects, dental and medical practices and one-person consultancies, and all of them hold records on behalf of other people which they must keep and could not recreate. Further east, the Willow Lane Business Improvement District in Mitcham contains more than 150 businesses and over 2,500 people. It has its own detailed sector list: printing, engineering, food manufacturing, timber, motor repair, logistics, distribution, water treatment, waste management and IT services. The output from those sectors is typically press-ready PDFs with associated colour profiles, CAD and machine programs, statutory monitoring returns, consignment records and safety data sheets. Underlying both of these environments is a strong residential thread along the Wandle, where the only copy of everything is a desktop computer in a back bedroom. Is there a counter in Wimbledon to leave it at?
No, we have no counter in Wimbledon or anywhere else in London, but you can post it to our Guildford intake laboratory or drop off your device there yourself, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm (no appointment needed). One room at our intake laboratory houses the imaging rigs, a shelf of donor disks and a bench, and it is the disk that travels rather than the equipment. Get a quote first, by telephone or using the quotation form; then you can send it by tracked and insured post from any post office in SW19, CR4 or SM4 on a weekday, and an engineer will generally open the box the next morning. We will examine it free of charge and pay for the postage back to you.
A single-handed practice, no IT support. What is step one?
Turn the machine off, do not turn it back on, and call us. The cost of diagnosis is nothing. What comes after it is quoted as one fixed price in writing. A single drive is priced at £300 + VAT. Memory cards and memory sticks are priced at £250 + VAT, recorders at £400 + VAT, and prices start at £500 + VAT where a second disk is involved in the work. You will have an opportunity to review the list of recovered data prior to being charged for any services, and on most jobs you only pay if we recover your data.
These are client files. What about confidentiality?
A case number refers to the job from initial booking through to its return, so no client's name appears on the documentation. Only the items that are genuinely required for the data recovery are opened by an engineer during the process, and nothing ever leaves the laboratory. Thirty days after the drive's return, the working copy created here is deleted. The Mitcham unit's NAS has been a disk short since spring.
Switch it off at the wall now, and no rebuilds: a rebuild reads the whole set in sequence, and it is that constant reading which the next worn disk does not survive. So get a quote first, before sending your disks; call us or fill in the form. Remove the disks from your NAS if possible and label them in bay order, or otherwise send the complete NAS box, assembled, with all its disks in place. With a server or RAID system, all the disks always come out, each one labelled in bay order. Either way, post it or bring it to our Guildford intake lab, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm (no appointment needed).
